"I’ve always been fascinated by the relationship between environment and musical output. The chance to make music inspired by, or even partly created within, such an unusual space really feels like an incredible privilege."
Jon Hopkins
In 2018 we embarked on an expedition to the Tayos Caves with the ambition to explore the underworld of Tayos through creative eyes.
Over four days underground, the team, including world-renowned musician Jon Hopkins and expedition leaders Eileen Hall and Tamsin Cunningham, explored the caverns, tunnels and chasms of Tayos; filming, recording, photographing and carrying out a pioneering study on the soundscape of the cave with neuroscientist Mendel Kaelen.
Their experiences of the cave forms the inspiration of the drawings, paintings, soundscapes, writing, music and meditation that form the The Liminal Compass.
