FELT SENSES
We are always sensing. And always making meaning of this sensing. The line between our sight, smell, touch and hearing, our senses of space and temperature and the internal map of our memories, emotions and understanding is a river that never ceases to flow. The world around us shapes our thoughts and feelings and our thoughts and feelings shape how we sense the world.
In the dark, stillness of the deepest parts of the cave the distractions of the world above no longer stand between the landscape of rock and stone before us and the landscape of memory and feeling that overlays, underlies and intertwines with it. We remember memories that had been buried deep. We feel what we had hidden in the dark places of our minds.
Like the spider’s web that catches the light at dawn and dusk but is lost in the bright sunlight of day, the messages the natural world has for us; the memory reminders and reservoirs of emotion are often only visible in fleeting moments; moments that flash past us like dust in the air unless we pause long enough to pay attention.
So now we sit, in the deep stillness and long pause of Tayos’s chambers each stone brushed by our fingers, each droplet felt on our skin, each beat of the bat’s wings that reaches our ears is a potential key, waiting to unlock something of ourselves.
Let your encounters with the world be one of feeling.
