CAVE CONSCIOUSNESS

In the stillness of the Cave new threads are being woven, new connections are being formed, new paths are being made.

The water, the warm, silty soil, the soft air, the spacious caverns and the darkness; they begin their work on the cells of our bodies and the neural networks of our brains, calming and slowing, disassembling and reconstructing. Inside us an imprint is being formed. A memory of cave space we will carry with us when we emerge.

The sensory landscape of the cave invites us on a journey into the deep. Not just of the earth but of our minds, our emotions, our memories and the stories of ourselves and others that we hold in the underworld of our psyche. And when we emerge back out into the light it will be as those who have explored these depths and dark places, those who know they contain within them both shadows and light.

When we emerge it will be with a gift from the cave; a cave consciousness shaped by the watermark of Tayos.

ON SANCTUARY & CAVE CONSCIOUSNESS

In this conversation Liminal Compass creators Eileen Hall and Tamsin Cunningham reflect on the topics of Sanctuary and Cave Consciousness and how they have been shaped by their experience of the Tayos Caves. We explore how spaces of sanctuary affect our physiology and neural pathways and how we can bring a kind of cave consciousness to the way we live day to day. How can we inhabit a sense of sanctuary even when we are surrounded by the noise of the world? What better understanding of ourselves and others might we gain if we engage in cave consciousness? And how can we use this sense of sanctuary and a cave state of mind to become better citizens of the ecosystems we inhabit? We end the workshop with an invitation to carry out your own integration of the topics discussed through listening and drawing, with suggestions on how to use drawing practice as a tool for deepening reflection.
